A solar power purchase agreement (PPA) lets your business use solar power without buying the system. The solar is installed on your roof with no upfront capital cost, and you pay an agreed rate for each kWh the system generates, usually set with the aim of being below what you pay for grid electricity. Under a typical PPA, the system is owned and maintained by the PPA provider for the agreement term.

Our Solar PPA Proposal assesses whether a PPA suits your site and sets out indicative terms and an energy model. It is priced from $990 as an indicative starting price, and the fee is credited if the PPA proceeds.

What's included

  • Site assessment of roof space, structure, shading and the switchboard
  • Analysis of 12 months of bills and interval data
  • System design and generation estimate for your location
  • Energy model showing how much solar the site would use and the expected cost per kWh
  • Indicative PPA terms: rate per kWh, price escalation, term length, maintenance and end-of-term options
  • Comparison of the PPA with buying the system outright
  • A written proposal for your management or board

Why Blue Energy Solar

We design and install commercial solar with premium equipment, including JA Solar panels and inverters from Sungrow, GoodWe, Fox ESS and Sigenergy, so the system in the proposal is one that can actually be built on your roof. We model the PPA against outright purchase honestly, because a PPA is not the best choice for every business. Our installers are SAA-accredited and all electrical work is done by our licensed electricians.

Recommended for

Businesses with suitable roofs and steady daytime usage that want the benefits of solar without spending capital upfront.

PPAs usually run for many years and suit businesses that expect to stay at the site. Key terms to review include the starting rate, annual escalation, what happens if you move or sell the property, who is responsible for roof repairs, and the options at the end of the term. Landlord consent is needed if you lease the premises.

Savings depend on how much of the solar output the site uses and on future grid prices. We explain terms in plain English but do not give financial or legal advice, so have your adviser and lawyer review the agreement before you sign.

Directions

1. Request the proposal and send us 12 months of bills and interval data.
2. We confirm the fee in writing and schedule a site assessment.
3. We design the system and build the energy model.
4. You receive the proposal with indicative PPA terms and a comparison with outright purchase.
5. If you proceed, the PPA is finalised, network approval is sought and the proposal fee is credited.

PPA terms in the proposal are indicative until a formal agreement is signed and are subject to credit and site approval.
Installation is subject to network approval, landlord consent where the premises are leased, and structural suitability.
Savings estimates depend on site usage and future electricity prices and are not guaranteed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Under a typical PPA the provider owns the system for the agreement term and is responsible for its maintenance and performance. Your business pays only for the electricity generated. At the end of the term, options commonly include extending the agreement, buying the system or having it removed, and the proposal sets out the options that would apply.

If the PPA proceeds for the site covered by the proposal, the proposal fee is credited to your business, so the proposal does not become an extra cost on top of the agreement. If you decide not to proceed, the proposal and energy model are still yours and can be used to evaluate buying a system outright.

It depends. A PPA avoids capital outlay and maintenance responsibility, while buying typically gives larger long-term savings if you have the capital and stay at the site. Tax treatment, cash flow and your lease also matter. The proposal compares both options for your site, and your accountant should review the comparison before you decide.

Often, yes, but you will need the landlord's written consent, and the PPA term should align with your lease or include arrangements if you move. Some agreements can be transferred to a new tenant or the owner. We raise these points early in the proposal so there are no surprises at the contract stage.
