Hybrid inverters and batteries need to know what is happening at your grid connection. A smart energy meter mounted on a DIN rail in your switchboard measures import and export in real time, so the inverter can limit export to what your network allows, charge the battery from surplus solar and cover household loads accurately. The same type of meter can also sub-meter a granny flat, shed, pool or other circuit.

We check whether your system already has one fitted and working before recommending a new meter.

The inverter uses the meter's readings to stay within that limit while still powering your home and charging your battery. Your approval documents show whether a limit applies.
Yes. A DIN-rail meter on the circuit that supplies the granny flat, shed, pool or workshop records its energy use, so you can see and fairly share costs. If you intend to charge a tenant for electricity, separate rules can apply to on-selling energy, so check those obligations before relying on sub-meter readings for billing.
