Radio repeaters, point-to-point internet links, 4G and satellite equipment, weather stations and water or stock monitoring all need power that does not stop. At remote sites, running mains power is often impractical, and generators need fuel runs and servicing. A solar DC power system supplies steady power from panels and batteries, designed to keep equipment running through extended cloudy weather.

Remote telecommunications systems start from $6,990 per site, installed. This is an indicative starting price; the final price depends on the equipment's continuous power draw and voltage, the days of autonomy required, shading and winter sun at the site, enclosure and mounting, and access.

What's included

  • A power budget based on your equipment's measured or rated draw and operating voltage
  • Design for the required days of autonomy through worst-case winter weather
  • Solar panels on a pole, frame or structure mount suited to the site
  • An LFP battery bank and a charge controller with low-voltage protection
  • A weatherproof, ventilated enclosure for batteries and electronics
  • DC distribution, fusing and surge protection, installed by our licensed electricians
  • Optional remote monitoring of battery voltage and charge
  • Commissioning and documentation of the system

Why Blue Energy Solar

Communications equipment rarely loses power on an average day; it loses power in the second week of winter cloud. We size for that week, not the average. We allow honest margins for battery ageing and panel soiling, and we document the system so your technicians know exactly how it is built.

Recommended for

Farms, businesses, councils and community groups running radio, internet or monitoring equipment at sites without reliable mains power.

Autonomy is the number of days the battery can run your equipment with little or no solar input. Critical links often need several days, and each extra day adds battery capacity and cost, so it is worth deciding how critical the site really is.

  • Continuous loads matter more than peak loads: a small draw running 24 hours a day adds up quickly.
  • LFP batteries should not be charged below freezing, so tablelands and alpine sites need suitable battery management or enclosure design.
  • Tower, mast and structural work may need an engineer and the site owner's approval.
  • Radio licensing and equipment configuration remain with your communications provider or technician.
Directions

1. Request a quote with the site location, equipment list, voltage and required autonomy.
2. We review power draw and site conditions, including a site visit where access allows.
3. We send a written design and quote showing the array, battery capacity and expected autonomy.
4. Once accepted, we build and install the system and connect it to your equipment supply point.
5. We commission the system, test protection and hand over documentation and monitoring access.

Warnings

The price shown is an indicative starting price; the final fixed price is confirmed in writing after a site assessment and design.
Accurate equipment power data is required; later additions to the load may need extra capacity.
Site access, landholder permission and any structural or tower approvals are the customer's responsibility unless included in the quote.
Communications equipment, radio licensing and network configuration are not included.
Electrical work is carried out by our licensed electricians.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on how critical the equipment is and how quickly someone can reach the site. A monitoring sensor that can miss a day of data needs far less than an emergency radio repeater. Critical remote sites are commonly designed for several days of autonomy through winter. We discuss the consequences of an outage with you and size storage to match.

Yes. We design the battery bank around the main equipment voltage and add suitable DC-to-DC converters where some devices need a different voltage. Mixing voltages adds small conversion losses, which we include in the power budget. Tell us the voltage and draw of every device at the site, so the system is designed correctly from the start.

A well-designed LFP system needs little routine attention, but remote sites should still be inspected periodically for panel soiling, vegetation, insect or animal damage, loose connections and enclosure seals. Remote monitoring shows battery health between visits and gives early warning of problems. We recommend an inspection schedule based on how exposed and how critical the site is.

Yes. Solar and batteries can take over most of the daily load, with the generator kept as a backup for long cloudy spells, or retired where the design allows. This reduces fuel runs and generator servicing. We review the existing generator, enclosure and cabling to see what can be reused and how the changeover will work.
