The app shows more detail, but a display is always on and visible to everyone at home, including people who never open the app. That makes it more likely the household will run appliances when solar is plentiful, or hold off on heavy use when the battery is low. A glance at the kitchen bench is often easier than checking a phone.
Many modern inverters and batteries with online monitoring can supply data to a display, either directly over the home network or through their monitoring platform. Older systems without consumption monitoring can only show solar production. We check your equipment before quoting and tell you exactly what the display will be able to show.
That depends on how the display and network equipment are powered. If your modem, router and the display are on battery-backed circuits, they can keep showing data during an outage. If not, the display goes blank when the grid fails. We can advise on putting network equipment on a backup circuit where your battery supports it.
No, the display is for information. It shows what is happening so you can decide when to run appliances. If you want loads such as hot water or a pool pump to switch automatically on surplus solar, a Smart Switch & Contactor or Smart Home Energy Controls do that job and can work alongside the display.
