Battery-ready is worth considering. A hybrid inverter can connect a compatible battery later. Under the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, a battery installed with existing solar can receive roughly 30% off the installed cost via STCs, with the value stepping down every 1 January and 1 July to 2030. Confirm current values on the official program page before signing.
A replacement inverter on its own does not usually create STCs. If the inverter size changes, a new network application may be needed. The price depends on inverter size and type, single-phase or three-phase supply, cable runs, switchboard work and whether the inverter needs to move to a cooler or more accessible location.
